First Lady Michelle Obama has impacted the world and won America’s hearts since the Presidential inauguration in 2008. As the first African American First Lady, she established new standards for the Black Family and was very adamant in asserting her initial priority, which is being a mother to her daughters, Malia and Sasha, while advocating for working women who balance careers and family. She showed what it means to be a woman balancing family and career life.
Obama is also publically recognized for her eclectic sense of fashion, being featured on Vanity Fair and People‘s Best dressed lists.
As a strong advocate for education, forming the #LetGirlsLearn initiative was established to educate young adolescent girls around the world. She believes the education of girls leads to healthier families, stronger communities and a brighter future. The initiative involves empowerment and leadership programs, and addresses issue such as gender-based violence. Her other initiatives include national service and their families, higher education, and healthy families.
As Michelle Obama’s reign comes to a halting end, her influence on this world will certainly not be forgotten, as she is a role model for all women.
