She began her career starring in the sitcom Ellen, during which she famously and bravely came out as being lesbian in 1997. Since then, DeGeneres has become an active member of Parents & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) and a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign’s Coming Out Project and LGBT community.

DeGeneres has famously lent her voice to the popular Disney’s Pixar animation, Finding Nemo, for the character Dory. She is also returning and starring in this summer’s anticipated sequel, Finding Dory.

Among other accomplishments, DeGeneres has starred in her own syndicated TV talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, since 2003. DeGeneres has hosted the Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, and the Primetime Emmys. She has also written three best selling books, has won 13 Emmys, 14 People’s Choice Awards, and several other awards for her charity work with UNICEF, PETA, Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and many more.
