Tis The Season To Be Thankful: Michelle Obama Sells 750,000 copies of ‘Becoming’ on First Day

Obama's highly anticipated memoir has moved almost one million copies in just one day, proving black girl magic is effective in every industry

As the holiday season takes full effect, I’m just as surprised as you that Thanksgiving is this week. Where has the time gone?

Our Forever First Lady has been making rounds across the country promoting her highly anticipated memoir Becoming. Just how anticipated is the book, well, Obama has sold 750,000 copies in her first day. All formats and editions are factored into sales including audiobooks.

One of the most successful single day sales for books this year, journalist Bob Woodard’s Fear: Trump in the White House also sold 750,000 its first day on the market.

“We are thrilled by the extraordinary response to Mrs. Obama’s beautifully rendered and deeply personal memoir, and we are confident that ‘Becoming’ will inspire millions of readers,” Penguin Random House U.S. CEO Madeline McIntosh said in a Friday statement.

It’s hard to compare anyone else’s year to that of Michelle Obama’s; from being able to throw ‘classy shade’ at the current political climate to gracing several magazine covers, to vehemently denying rumors of throwing her hat into the 2020 political ring. We can’t speak for our #ForeverFirstLady, but I’m sure she’ll agree that 750,000 on the first day at market is a lot to be thankful for.
