Taylor Swift Supports Ke$ha Legal Battle Financially

Despite giving money to her legal fund the speaker has not spoken out in support of the fellow singer

In the midst of her ongoing legal battle with music producer Dr. Luke, recording artist Ke$ha has received financial support from Taylor Swift.

Ke$ha, whose name is Kesha Rose Sebert, first rose to fame for the hit single “Tik Tok” and later “Timber” with Pitbull. She was first signed to Kemosabe Records in 2008 under Dr. Luke, whose real name is Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald.

In the lawsuit filed, she asked to be released from her contract with her abuser, Gottwald, which was denied on the February 15th. If her team can admit the assault allegations were true, there is a chance she may be released from her contract.

His verbal abuse also caused Sebert’s eating disorder that resulted in her having to attend rehab. He also threatened the safety of her family and due to his power and money, Ke$ha deeply believed that his threats could be carried out. Ke$ha’s fans have tried to get many petitions to release her from her contract but have been unsuccessful.

Although there has been a surprising lack of female artists commentary in the press and on social media platforms, Taylor Swift, a self-proclaimed “feminist” recording artist has donated $250,000 Ke$ha’s legal fund.

The news of Swift’s donation has been covered on multiple major news outlets, while the news of Ke$ha’s actual legal troubles has not been covered with as much emphasis.

Many other artists, most notably Demi Lovato, has spoken out on multiple platforms in support of Ke$h, including other artists such as Lady Gaga, Lorde, Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande.

In response to Swift’s contribution, Lovato tweeted a series of tweets subtweeting about Swift’s contribution most notably because Swift has been known to victimize herself while portraying other female artists as bullies as well as her former romantic partners.

While Lovato and many other female celebrities have voiced their concern over Ke$ha and the lack of support many female artists get when they speak out, Swift has stayed surprisingly silent. As of today, her last tweet was the announcement of her latest single on February 19th. Many celebrities and fans have tweeted #FreeKesha to show their support.

The first series of lawsuits began back in 2014 in which Ke$ha sued for sexual assault and battery. In the suit, she claimed that Dr. Luke was sexually, physically, verbally, and emotionally abusive for over a decade including drugging her on multiple occasions and taking advantage of her. Dr. Luke has countersued for breach of contract and defamation.
