Congratulations are in order for rap artist Nicki Minaj. It is said that she is set to executive produce and star in a scripted comedy series for ABC Family based on her life growing up in Queens, New York. The filming of a pilot episode will take place in Minaj’s hometown this winter, with hopes to continue to a series.
Minaj was born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago. As a child, she moved to Queens, New York where she studied at the reputable LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. She is also the first female artist to have seven singles all on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. Her third album which was The Pinkprint, was the second highest – selling female debut in 2014 and was No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 and also No.1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart. Minaj is currently in the process of her Pinkprint tour.
Aside from her success in music, this won’t be Minaj’s first debut as an actress. Her first debut was an animated voice role in Ice Ace: Continental Drift and a co-starring role in the comedy, The Other Woman. She also just recently finished a project as her first starring role in MGM’s Barbershop 3. Minaj has also caught viewers eyes making a musical guest appearance on Saturday Night Live.
Sources have not disclosed who else will star in the series, but it is expected to be very noteworthy, showing the trials and tribulations Minaj faced before becoming a star while her family adding a comedic touch.
