Blindsided by the news of a “Today” show shake-up, resident anchor Tamron Hall exits NBC, leaving big money on the table.
On Wednesday, Feb. 1, the network announced that the veteran journalist will be walking away from both NBC and MSNBC when her contract expires this month — despite a rumored multi-year, multi-million dollar contract offer.
“Yesterday was her last day as an anchor on both networks,” reads a statement from NBC News. “Tamron is an exceptional journalist, we valued and enjoyed her work at ‘Today’ and MSNBC and hoped that she would decide to stay. We are disappointed that she has chosen to leave, but we wish her all the best.”
“The last 10 years have been beyond anything I could have imagined, and I’m grateful,” Hall, 46, said in a statement released via the network. “I’m also very excited about the next chapter. To all my great colleagues, I will miss you and I will be rooting for you.”
Meanwhile, her co-anchor Al Roker will continue to host the third hour until the new morning lineup begins this fall, the statement continued.
In case you missed it, news of a possible shake-up shook fans last week when it was revealed that Megyn Kelly, who recently left Fox News for a new role at NBC News, would be taking over “Today‘s” third hour, currently helmed by Hall and Roker. Taking to Twitter, fans voiced both their disbelief and vowed to never again watch the daily live broadcast.
“Megyn Kelly is going to replace Tamron Hall? That’s wild,” wrote one user. “NBC f—– up. Tamron Hall is like a good hairdresser; if she moves to another shop, her clients will follow,” added another.
Dear @TODAYshow if u replace Al Roker & Tamron Hall w Megyn Kelly, I, like many others, will drop entire show & watch Good Morning America

In 2007, Hall joined MSNBC and NBC before becoming a part of the “Today” team as a co-anchor of “Today’s Take” in 2014. Hall also anchored “MSNBC Live,” a daily news program airing at 11 a.m. on MSNBC. Still, considering Hall’s overall gift of gab and loyal fan base, we imagine she’ll land a role of purpose at a network where she is valued in no time.
