On Friday, Scandal Star Kerry Washington released a first look at the highly anticipated biopic Confirmation via Twitter. She will star as Anita Hill, the attorney who accused Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment during his 1991 Supreme Court Campaign. Hill’s testimony changed the way sexual harassment is handled at work.
Set to premiere on HBO April 16, the biopic features Wendell Pierce as Thomas, Greg Kenner as then-senator Joe Biden and Jennifer Hudson as Angela Wright, another women who accused Thomas of the same crime.
“And I was immersed in how complicated and how complex the issues were from a very young age, and it always stuck with me how passionate both of my parents were and how differently they looked at the situation,” Washington said at a Television Critics Association panel.
“So that was part of what was important for all of us in the making of this film, is that we really courageously stick to the complexity of the situation and not try to one-note any character or any one moment of this process,” she added.
Audiences are eager to see Kerry Washington pull off her highest-profile role, that could possibly earn her an Emmy. She was nominated twice for Scandal, but did not win. Watch the trailer and mark your calendars for April 16th.
