Haters gone hate. We aren’t calling Bernard Giudicelli, French Tennis Federation (FTT) President, a hater, but haters gone hate.
Serena Williams is back to collect her wins as she returns to the French Open next year. Nike designed a black catsuit that she initially wore at a tournament this past May. Designed uniquely for her, the suits compression gives Williams protection from blood clots. We can remember Serena’s childbirth health scare involving clots after the birth of her daughter, Alexis Olympia.
Designed with Nike and Virgil Abloh, newly appointed artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s wear collection; William’s catsuit although stylish and conscious of her health won’t fly with the new guideline on dress code.
“I think that sometimes we’ve gone too far,” explaining why a dress code is now being introduced to regulate players’ uniforms and citing Williams’ form-fitting suit as an example. “It will no longer be accepted. One must respect the game and the place,” Giudicelli said of the outfit specially designed for Williams.
Haters gone hate; we’ve established that early on. Although the dress code for the French Open will require an advance look at players’ uniforms next year, it won’t be as restrictive as the Wimbledon dress code of all white. I’m sure Nike and Abloh can manage to make Williams comfortable and queen-like for the Open. Until then Williams will continue to rack up wins, and we’ll continue to stan from the sidelines.
