After months of speculation Donald Glover has officially joined the cast of the new Spider-Man movie Spider-Man: Homecoming.
For years, Marvel has been criticized for their lack of diversity despite having hundreds of characters of color. Shortly after the announcement of British actor Tom Holland to star in new reboot, it was also publicized that singer, actress Zendaya would play role in the film.
Recently even more speculation has gone around about who else would be cast, and actor and hip-hop artist Donald Glover’s name came up consistently. Although no official word on his role, it has been officially confirmed he will state in the film. Glover has also acted in the “The Martian” alongside Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, and Sebastian Stan as well as hit television show “Community” with Chevy Chase, Joel McHale, and Allsison Brie.
“Community” was produced and sometimes directed by the Russo Brothers (Anthony and Joe) who also directed previous Marvel films Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and Captain America: Civil War (2016), and will be directing the two Avengers: Infinity War films.
Robert Downey Jr. will continue playing the role of Iron Man in the film as well. Marissa Tomei will be playing Aunt May.
Production will start this summer.
