Zendaya is an idol to young girls all around the world. Zendaya’s drive for self-confidence in girls and unique fashion sense has made her 2015’s “it-girl”. The style of the doll is based off of her controversial outfit from the 2015 Oscar Awards. Eyebrows were raised when Giuliana Rancic said Zendaya looked like she smelled of weed and patchouli oil due to her hair, which was the style of locs.
Zendaya is absolutely honored about being Barbie’s new doll. She said that when she was little he didn’t have any dolls that looked like her.
"When I was little, I didn't have one that looked like me, so I couldn't connect with her in that way," she told Yahoo. "But getting to visit the Mattel offices and see Barbie's vision for the future… it was really cool. I was able to see how they plan to diversify, broadening the horizons and the image of Barbie, and make it more, you know, open. I left the office feeling like it was definitely something I wanted to be a part of." Barbie has always been more prone to having Caucasian dolls and many people, including me, are very excited to see some diversity on the shelves. Barbie will display Zendaya’s doll at the Barbie Rock ‘N Royals Concert Experience on Sept. 26 in Los Angeles. Zendaya is hosting the event, which will benefit the VH1 Save The Music Foundation.
